Momentum

Momentum, in physics, is simply defined as “mass in motion." All objects have mass; so if an object is moving, then it has momentum - it has its mass in motion. The amount of momentum that an object has is dependent upon two variables: how much stuff is moving and how fast the stuff is moving. Now that’s literal momentum but we can apply this truth figuratively and even spiritually! Metaphorically, it’s like a sports team that is on the move, scoring points and winning games and in the process they’re building momentum towards a championship. The momentum is on their side.

In the same way, the church that is on the move, doing the will of God, praying without ceasing, seeking God’s face, maturing and growing in the Lord, is building momentum towards eternity in Heaven. We’re building spiritual momentum! Why because there is a place we’re trying to get to! Paul said in Philippians 3:14 - “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

The tough part about momentum is maintaining the momentum you’re building. The enemy will try to stop you in your tracks. He doesn’t even have to stop you completely. If he can slow you down enough then he’s done his job. He will try to hinder your walk with Christ. He came to steal, kill and destroy. He doesn’t want you to grow. He doesn’t want you to succeed. He doesn’t want you to be saved, set free and heaven bound. He wants to stop your momentum. He wants to slow you down. He doesn’t want you to grow or to excel. He doesn’t want you to stay encouraged and excited. An encouraged church is a dangerous one to him.

He wants to stop your momentum and delay the process of God. But let me tell you what God told Moses in Exodus 14:15-16 -“ The Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward. Lift up your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that the people of Israel may go through the sea on dry ground.” God is telling you that now is not the time to stop or to slow down. The momentum is on your side. God, like he did with Moses, has placed in your hand everything you need to go forward. You have everything you need to succeed and be victorious. The momentum is on your side. Pharaoh thought he could stop their momentum but he couldn’t. The devil thought he could stop your momentum but he can’t! So continue to fight the good fight of faith because the momentum is on your side.

Continue to not only build but to maintain that momentum and don’t give up! Don’t allow sin to stop your momentum. It’s time to lay aside every sin and hindrance! Hebrews 12:1 says - “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,” when you do this then you can build momentum just like it says in Job 17:9 - “Yet the righteous holds to his way, and he who has clean hands grows stronger and stronger.” I believe you’re only getting stronger and stronger. They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and because you’re getting stronger, the momentum is on your side.

You can be sure of this, like it says in Philippians 1:6 - “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion on the day of Jesus Christ.” No matter what comes your way, or how you may feel, you can continue forward, knowing that even when you feel low and weak like it says in 2 Corinthians 12:10 - “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” The momentum is on your side. Isaiah 40:31 says “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” It’s time for the church to press forward, build and maintain momentum. Let us mount up with wings as eagles!! Let us push towards the mark! The momentum is on your side.
